Blog 3- Social Penetration Theory

In this blog I am going to go in depth in the theory of Social Penetration. This is a theory about how we get to know others and how we develop relationship with others with  mutual gratification. For an example, If I get in a conversation with a complete stranger I am going to find out the most similarities that me and that person has to decline the self-disclosure between us. I remember one time I was standing in line at Walmart and I saw this girl with a Versace handbag, We hit it off automatically because our whole conversion was about designer brands and we both had similarities in the likes of the fashion world. We continue to build a relationship but as her friend and her trusting me I continue to learn more things about her that I wouldn't think that she has been associated with. But as a true friend I was  glad she open up to me more instead of hiding things from me, It actually improve our friendship, But If she would told me those things before I probably would have ended our friendship. Another example of  Social Penetration is in the movie 21 jump street, There is a phone call that takes place between Morton and Molly. In the conversation there will be three  phases of Social Penetration shown, superficial, intimate, personal, and the core.

Here is a Video below that shows a example of  Social Penetration in the movie 21 Jump Street
